UGL Steroids: What Underground Labs Are and How to Judge One

UGL Steroids: What Underground Labs Are and How to Judge One

UGL steroids explained: what an underground lab is, how often black-market steroids fail, the 2026 bad batches, how Geneza compares and how to judge one.

    What UGL Means

UGL stands for underground lab: a producer of anabolic steroids that works without a licence, sells through online resellers and does not publish an address or ownership. Almost every steroid brand sold online outside a prescription is a UGL, including well-known names such as Geneza Pharmaceuticals and Dragon Pharma. The word pharmaceutical in a brand name does not change that.

UGL steroids are the opposite of pharmaceutical grade products, which are made by licensed manufacturers under regulator inspection, with batch records and a legal supply chain. Nothing about an underground product is inspected by anyone outside the lab.

Every UGL product is a trust decision. The evidence you can gather replaces the inspection nobody else did.

The practical gap is sterility and consistency. A good UGL batch can match its label; the next batch from the same brand may not, and no outside body checks either.

    Why UGL Brands Hide

Making anabolic steroids without a licence is a crime in most countries, so UGLs hide where they operate and who runs them. That creates two problems for buyers. There is no company to hold responsible, and the brand name is easy to copy, so counterfeit versions of popular brands circulate alongside the real ones. Geneza is a typical example: no address has been published, and several sites claim to be the official store without proof. Details are in where is Geneza Pharmaceuticals located and Geneza Pharmaceuticals website.

The one public glimpse into Geneza's supply chain came from law enforcement. On 7 February 2016, Moldova's Security and Intelligence Service seized 15 postal bags holding 387 packages of anabolic steroids at Chisinau airport, disguised as books and advertising material. An investigation by Anticoruptie.md, nominated for the European Press Prize in 2017, reported that the packages held Geneza products and described Geneza as a company not officially registered in Moldova. A commentator quoted in the same article said an earlier seizure in 2009 also targeted Geneza. That is typical of how UGLs become visible: through seizures and leaks, not company filings.

    How Often Black-Market Steroids Fail

The best overall picture comes from a 2022 systematic review and meta-analysis in BMC Public Health, which pooled 19 studies from Europe and Brazil covering 5,413 anabolic steroid samples, 1,614 of them tested for quantity.

    A further 37%

    Inert counterfeits

    24% of counterfeits

    No active steroid at all

The authors warn that the studies differ a lot, so the figures are rough, and 74% of the samples came from seizures by authorities rather than from purchases of established brands. Among counterfeits, 44% contained a different compound from the label and 11% were adulterated with extra substances. Still, the scale is clear: on the black market as a whole, a product that contains the right compound at the right dose is closer to the exception than the rule. That is the background against which any single UGL's reputation should be judged.

    Recent UGL Failures: 2026

The weaknesses in the table above are not theoretical. In early 2026 buyers who paid for their own Janoshik tests found that several batches of Ultima Pharmaceuticals testosterone contained no anabolic steroid, and an Ultima growth hormone kit measured zero IU. Ultima later posted a notice naming four bad batches and saying a raw material supplier had sent vitamin E with documents for testosterone. At the same time, a Beligas cypionate lot measured zero at Janoshik, and Domestic Supply, one of the main US sellers, acknowledged a bad batch each of Beligas enanthate and cypionate.

Three lessons carry over to any UGL. The problems were found by buyers, not by the brands. The batches passed through established stores, including NapsGear, before anyone noticed. And the brands' own statements came after the public reports, not before. A UGL's reputation is only as current as its most recent independent test.

    Where Geneza Fits

Geneza is a useful example because it sits at the documented end of the UGL spectrum. AnabolicLab published 13 reports on GP products between 2015 and 2017, funded by AnabolicLab itself, and the earliest dated user reviews of the brand on Eroids go back to 2013. It also has the usual UGL gaps: no address, no verification system proven to be its own, several look-alike stores, and no public testing since 2017 on newer products such as GP Anavar 50 or GP Deca 300. The full catalogue is in Geneza Pharmaceuticals steroids.

    How to Judge a UGL

    1. 1Independent lab tests: has anyone paid an outside lab to test the brand's products, and are results public?
    2. 2Track record: years of forum and Reddit discussion, including complaints and how they were handled.
    3. 3Verification: does the brand run a code system that is provably its own?
    4. 4Consistency: do users report the same results across batches and years?
    5. 5Counterfeit volume: how often do fakes of the brand show up?

The full assessment of Geneza against these questions is in the Geneza Pharmaceuticals review, and the same questions for Dragon Pharma are compared in Geneza vs Dragon Pharma.

Checking a UGL Product You Hold

    1. 1Compare packaging with recent photos from long-time users of the same brand.
    2. 2Look at the oil or tablets: clear oil without particles, tablets uniform in size and colour.
    3. 3Run a reagent test to confirm the compound.
    4. 4Get blood work two to three weeks into a steady dose.

These steps are laid out for GP products in the Geneza product authenticity guide. They reduce risk but do not remove it; sterility in particular cannot be checked at home.

UGL steroids are anabolic steroids made by underground labs, producers without a licence who sell through online resellers and keep their location and owners private. Most steroid brands sold online without a prescription are UGLs, including Geneza Pharmaceuticals and Dragon Pharma, whatever their names suggest.

No UGL product is inspected by a regulator, so dose, purity and sterility are not guaranteed; a 2022 review estimated 36% of black-market steroids are counterfeit. Some brands have good independent test results, but those cover the batches tested. Anabolic steroids also carry health risks when the product is real. Blood work and medical supervision reduce, not remove, those risks.

Yes. Despite the word pharmaceuticals, Geneza has no published licence, address or registration and sells through resellers, which makes it an underground lab. It stands out from many UGLs because AnabolicLab tested 13 of its products between 2015 and 2017, with GP Oxan slightly above its label.

Pharmaceutical grade products come from licensed manufacturers inspected by regulators, with controlled dose and tested sterility, and are legal only with a prescription. UGL products have no outside inspection, can vary between batches and are illegal to buy in most countries. Fakes of both types exist.

Look for public independent lab tests, years of forum and Reddit history, consistent user reports across batches, and a verification system provably run by the brand. Then check your own product with packaging comparison, a reagent test and blood work. No single sign is enough on its own.

In the United States anabolic steroids are Schedule III controlled substances, and most other countries also restrict them to prescription use. Buying UGL steroids without a prescription is illegal in most places, and parcels can be seized at customs. This site provides information only and recommends no seller.
